SWABI: Central naib-amir of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl(JUI-F) Maulana Fazal Ali was elected district amir of the party for fourth consecutive time here on Sunday.
He obtained 347 votes in intra-party election while his opponent got 217 votes which reflected his dominance in the party for about two decades. Noorul Islam, who belonged to Zaida city, was elected district general secretary by acquiring 361 votes and his rival Mufti Sardar Mohammad secured 195 votes.
With the conclusion of district election, the process to elect new amir for five years and various other party office-bearers in the district was completed. Maulana Ali held the portfolio of education minister during Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He contested the last three general elections against PTI candidates and gave them a tough time.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that all those who won or faced defeat in intra-party election were valuable part of democratic process.
