HARIPUR: A paediatrician on Sunday died by suicide over unknown reasons in Khalabat Township here, family sources and the police said.

They said that Dr Alam Zeb Khan, 52, a medical officer who was practicing in the paediatrics department, died after he shot at his skull on Sunday.

The police quoted the family sources as saying that Dr Khan was in his bedroom when they heard a gunshot and rushed to his room and found him critically injured. He was removed to the Haripur Trauma Centre where doctors pronounced him as brought dead.

The reason behind him taking his own life was not immediately known. However, family sources said that he had been under mental stress and using medicines for last few months.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy died after he was buried alive under a landslide here on Sunday. Police quoted the family sources as saying that Ammad Ahmed, 15, a resident of Chandni Chowk Colony of Tarbela Dam, was on a picnic with his father near Ghazi Barotha barrage.

They said that he was sitting under a small hillock when a heavy mass of soil and sand slid over him. They said that rescue workers retrieved him from under the rubble and shifted him to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Ghazi, whose doctors pronounced him dead.
