LAKKI MARWAT: Miscreants torched the building of a private school in Mastikhel area of Lakki Marwat district on Sunday night.

The police said that a group of miscreants led by Mohammad Shafiq, Naseer and Samiullah set the building on fire.

They said that the fire extensively damaged the building, turning the furniture and other equipment into ashes.

Former district nazim Qudratullah Khan Advocate, who is the owner of the school, told the police in his preliminary report that he learnt about the incident in the morning. He said that when he reached the site he found the school’s building engulfed in flames.

Mr Qudratullah is the son of Haji Mohammad Aslam Khan, head of Marwat Qaumi Jirga. He told the police that with the help of villagers they extinguished the fire.

The former nazim told the police that the miscreants also damaged the solar power system of the school. He added that the fire gutted eight classrooms and the principal’s office.

He said that a tube well was also damaged in the fire.

The police said that they had registered a case against the miscreants under relevant sections of law and began investigation.
