LAKKI MARWAT: The members of local bodies from Bannu district will participate in the protest sit-in to be held in front of Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar today (Wednesday).

The announcement to this effect was made at a meeting of all Chairmen and Councillors Ittehad held on the premises of municipal offices in Bannu on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, chairman of the body Waqar Niaz Khan, Mir Mohammad, Raza Mohammad Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Rifatullah Qureshi and others said that provincial government failed to devolve powers and financial resources for uplift works at grassroots level despite lapse of two and half years.

“Since the establishment of local governments, a single penny has not been released so far for carrying out our uplift schemes,” they claimed.

RANGE: A shooting range has been established at police lines in Lakki Marwat to enable policemen to conduct controlled shooting practice.

An official said that the firing range was set up under police welfare initiative to enhance professional capacities of cops. “The facility will be also open to private shooting players,” he added.

ARRESTED: An alleged robber was arrested in injured condition after exchange of fire with police in Shah Tora Takhtikhel area of Lakki Marwat on Monday night.

An official said that a raiding party was sent to the rural locality when police received information about the presence of two robbers there. He said that the armed suspects opened firing on the policemen when they noticed them.

He said that after exchange of fire, police arrested in injured condition Razaullah, a resident of Tarkha Bazikhel, who was wanted by police in cases of robbery. He said a hand grenade, a pistol and bullets were recovered from the arrested man while his other accomplice managed to escape.

SEALED: A filling station was sealed and proprietors of six other petrol pumps were fined for tampering with gauge in Bannu district on Tuesday.

An official said that the additional assistant commissioner, Riaz Ahmad, paid visits to filling stations in different areas. He checked implementation of official rates of oil products and gauge. He found that the pump owners had tampered with the gauge of petrol and diesel dispensers.

The AAC also fined milkmen in parts of the district for selling adulterated milk.
