MANSEHRA: Residents of Mansehra city and its suburbs on Tuesday demanded of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company to stop prolonged and unscheduled power cuts.

A group of residents led by Mohammad Ajmal told reporters that Pesco suspended power supply to them almost 10 hours daily, with the outage lasting three to four hours continuously.

“We regularly pay power bills, which are often inflated, but even then, we’re unfairly subjected to prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding,” Mr Khan said.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had promised a reasonable reduction in power tariff, but the promise was still unfulfilled.

Ask Pesco to follow loadshedding schedule

Another resident, Mohammad Ayub, said the issue was taken up with Pesco officials many times, but to no avail.

The residents warned if Pesco didn’t follow the loadshedding schedule, they would take to the streets.

TECHNICAL INSTITUTE: The Upper Kohistan administration on Tuesday inaugurated the first technical institute in the district.

The project was completed under a social development package approved for the people affected by the Dasu hydropower project, according to deputy commissioner Tariq Ali Khan.

He told the institute’s inaugural ceremony in the Suo area that the project promised the training of local youth in modern disciplines for better earning opportunities.

Chinese engineers and people from different walks of life attended the event.

The DC said work on the Dasu hydropower project was in full swing.

He said the project would ensure people’s socioeconomic development and help address the county’s power shortages.

“Under this community welfare programme, schools, colleges and health facilities will also be established in the district,” he said.

The DC praised Chinese nationals over their valuable contributions to Pakistan’s development and said the Dasu hydropower project in Kohistan was also being executed with the Chinese assistance.

“The local community is extending complete support and cooperation to the district administration in executing this mega energy project and other developmentprojects,” he said.

KILLED: Two people were killed as a pickup vehicle they travelled in fell into a deep ravine in the Sumodara area of Lower Kohistan district on Tuesday.

The incident happened in the far-off Kiyal area when the driver lost control of the Kiyal-bound vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn on the bumpy road.

Bodies were shifted to a nearby health facility, according to an official from the district police control room.

He identified the deceased as Jamal Mir and Abdul Qayyum and said the bodies were handed over to the families for burial.
