ISLAMABAD: Top-ranked national tennis players Aqeel Khan, Muzamil Murtaza and Mohammad Shoaib advanced to the semi-finals of the Khawar Hayat Khan Memorial National Ranking Tennis Tournament here at the SDA-PTF Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

Veteran Aqeel dominated Ahmad Nael Qureshi 6-3, 6-1 while Muzamil dropped a set but still battled past Abdullah Adnan in a thrilling three-set match, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5.

Similarly, Shoaib also came back from a set down to defeat Mudassir Murtaza 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the semis.

In the doubles quarter-finals, the duo of Mudassir and Shahzad Khan cruised past M. Talha Khan and M. Huzaifa Khan 6-1, 6-0. The pair of Hamza Roman and Saqib Hayat edged the pair of Sami Zeb Khan and Abdullah Adnan 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 10-8.

In the junior events, Bilal Asim, Hamza and Ahmad Nael won their respective quarter-final matches in the boys Under-18 category.

Mohammad Junaid and Mohammad Hassan Usmani advanced in the Under-14 quarter-finals, while Rashid Ali and Ibraheem Gill won in the Under-12 quarter-finals.
