CHINIOT: The Rajoa police have arrested a man who strangled his wife with an iron chain in front of her father and relatives, accusing her of loose character.

Parveen Bibi, of Wallah Rai village, was married to Riaz from the same village, 14 years ago. However, Riaz allegedly often beat her and accused her of having relationships.

Fed up with the accusations, Shamman, father of Parveen, called his son-in-law Riaz to his home for reconciliation on Aug 25.

Riaz, along with his second son-in-law Muhammad Aslam, arrived and requested to speak with Parveen in a separate room. Shortly after, Parveen’s cries were heard from the room. When her father and relatives rushed in, they found Aslam holding her hands while Riaz tightened an iron chain around her neck. Despite their efforts to rescue her, Parveen succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Both Riaz and Aslam fled.

Rajoa police registered a case on the application of Shamman, the father, under sections 302, 311, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The police formed teams to investigate and apprehend the killers within seven days.

The teams successfully tracked down and arrested both Aslam and Riaz from a remote location.
