KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead by a citizen in Korangi on Wednesday, police and rescue officials said.

The Korangi Industrial Area police said that two armed muggers tried to loot as many citizens near Shan Chowrangi.

One of the citizens, identified as Ismail, took out his licensed pistol and opened fire on them. As a result, one suspect suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot, while his accomplice managed to escape.

The police identified the deceased as Rana Javed and said that he had a past criminal record as he was booked in three criminal cases pertaining to dacoity, possession of illegal arms and narcotics.

Teenager killed, six hurt

The owner of a snooker shop in Surjani Town shot dead a teenager and wounded six others, police said.

SSP-West Dr Hafeezur Rehman Bugti told Dawn that suspect Qurban had a snooker shop in Taiser Town where gambling was also taking place and area residents had objected to it and the police got it closed two months ago.

On Wednesday evening, Qurban exchanged hot words with a person, Abdul Haq, over the same issue. Later, he went to his home and brought a pistol and started indiscriminate firing on the people. As a result, 18-year-old Wajid Qasim was killed while six others were wounded. The suspect managed to escape.
