LAHORE: The Punjab home department has for the third consecutive time in recent months banned “cutting of trees from public and private land and movement of timber/ firewood in district Chakwal” for two months.
The home department has imposed Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 following Deputy Commissioner, Chakwal, informed that cutting of trees in bulk was badly affecting environment as well as disturbing ecosystem in Chakwal district.
“The large-scale cutting of these trees from watersheds areas also result in flash flood and hill torrents,” the DC stated.
