KARACHI: Two alleged robbers were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Orangi Town on Thursday afternoon, said police.
The alleged encounter took place between the police and armed suspects near Banaras Colony, where after an exchange of gunfire, the two with bullet wounds were taken into custody, said West-SSP Dr Hafeezur Rehman.
The suspects identified as Sarfaraz, alias Kaki, and Adil Ali, died while being taken to hospital, the police added.
The police claimed to have recovered two illegal pistols, spent bullet casings and a motorcycle from their possession.
Body of drowned child found
The body of a child, who had drowned in Lyari Nadi on Wednesday evening, was found floating on the water early on Thursday morning, rescue services officials said.
Sindh Government Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that two-year-old Abdul Waheed while playing with his siblings drowned in the stream near Sohrab Goth on Wednesday evening.
He claimed that they had received information about the incident at 6:42pm and launched a rescue operation at 7:31pm. Three rescue teams continued the search. At 9:40am on Thursday, the infant’s body was found floating on the water around “two kilometres away” from the place of the drowning.
Mr Khan added that they faced difficulties during the rescue operation because of a charged mob.
