WATER DISRUPTION

Published September 6, 2024

WATER DISRUPTION: The seriously irregular water supply in Karachi’s Korangi area has created an opportunity for the tanker mafia to thrive. The reliance on expensive and often contaminated water from the tankers, or fetching water from distant sources, has become a harsh reality for many. This crisis has been exacerbated by years of mismanagement, lack of infrastructure development, and the lucrative tanker mafia business. The government must prioritise this issue and ensure that the people of Karachi have access to clean and affordable water.

EQUITABLE SOCIETY: Feminism, at its core, is about equality and respect for all individuals, and not just about adopting outlandish trends. This debate highlights a broader issue where not everyone fully understands or respects the other’s rights and boundaries. It is important to recognise that not all men are guilty just as not all women are naive. Understanding the true meaning of rights and how they apply to everyone — regardless of gender — can help us move towards a more equitable and harmonious social existence.

A COMPLEX ISSUE: Balochistan has been rocked once again with a fresh wave of terrorism. To address the challenges in Balochistan, a multi-pronged approach is required. The government must ensure that the economic benefits of projects like Gwadar are felt and enjoyed by the local population. This includes investing in sustainable development projects that directly benefit the people of Balochistan, such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Moreover, there must be concerted efforts to ensure adequate political representation of the the people of Balochistan at both the provincial and national levels. The involvement of regional and global powers in Balochistan’s unrest suggests that the province’s issues cannot be resolved in isolation. We need to take a comprehensive approach towards the issue.
