LAHORE: The city traffic police seized a car and handed down a fine of Rs 35,900 to its owner/driver for committing 74 traffic violations in the provincial capital, making him the most reckless motorist behind the wheel.

He violated red signals 58 times and lane violations 16 times at various roads of the city. Most violations were reported on The Mall, Jail Road, Main Boulevard of Gulberg, Ferozpur Road and Wahdat Road.

An official said each time the Punjab Safe City Authority marked the spot where he violated traffic rules, the online e-challan was sent to him.

He said the driver ignored the challan slips and kept violating the rules fearing no punishment. He said the PSCA sent an alert to the traffic police which tracked down the car through the Safe City’s cameras on The Mall, issued him a fine slip of Rs35,900 and impounded the car.

He said the car owner paid the fine on the spot. For the possession of his car, he would have to approach the court.

Separately, the traffic police impounded nearly 890 vehicles and imposed fine upon 19,000 others for creating environmental pollution in a special drive launched in the city. The police issued fine of Rs2,000 to each violator.
