BAJAUR: Students of government higher secondary school for boys Khar-2 here the other day staged protest against shortage of staff and absence of facilities in the institution located in Haji Lawang area.

The protesting students, who were chanting slogans in favour of their demands, blocked the main Khar-Mardan road for some time.

The demonstrators pointed out that their school was the second largest and crowded institution in the entire district, having the strength of more than 3,000 students.

However, they claimed the school had been facing the shortage of about eight teachers and non-availability of washrooms and drinking water facilities for many years. The protesting students slammed the officials of the local education department for not taking interest in resolving school’s issues.

However, the student ended their protest by reopening the road after a team of the officials of the district administration and local education department met with their leaders and assured them to address their issues within a week.

According to a statement issued from the deputy commissioner’s office, the visiting officials have also met the institution’s principal to know his view over the issues which led the students to come out on the roads.
