SWABI: Mohammad Jamil, a renowned politician, lawyer, one of the founders of Swabi Qaumi Mahaz and former district naib-nazim, passed away here on Friday after protracted illness. He was 75
The deceased was hailing from Marghuz village of Swabi and was one of the staunched leaders of Awami National Party (ANP). He was the only leader who once questioned late Begum Naseem Wali Khan for violating the party constitution.
He later said adieu to ANP and became part of Qaumi Inqilabi Party when it was established by Afrasiab Khattak and various other prominent leaders. He along with late Dr Mohammad Salim, former forest minister Awwal Sher Khan, ex-MPA Abdul Majid Khan and various other leaders and workers established Swabi Qaumi Mahaz in 1994.
Later, he left SQM and rejoined ANP but soon joined Qaumi Watan Party. It is a known fact that Mr Jamil convinced Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao to rename Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) as QWP.
He also remained district naib-nazim and at a later stage of his life he started writing in daily Express. He was counted among intellectuals and one of the distinguished politicians and brilliant lawyers.
Having no child, he left behind two widows and nephews to mourn his death.
