ABBOTTABAD: A policeman was martyred and another injured during an encounter with an outlaw near the Sethi Masjid here on Thursday night.

District police officer Umer Tufail said constable Shahzeb, 28, embraced martyrdom and constable Ehtisham Rafiq suffered injuries during the counter, which took place in the jurisdiction of Sikanderabad police station. He said the outlaw escaped the area.

He said the body and the injured were shifted to a hospital.

The police registered a case against the accused under sections 302, 353, 324, and 189 PPC and 7-ATA.

Meanwhile, police sources said DIG Hazara Tahir Ayub Khan formed a special investigation team headed by DPO Umar Tufail to arrest the outlaw.

They said the team traced the outlaw, namely Ahsan alias Redar of Lambi Dheri, and reached Bui de Gali area.

They said when the team besieged his hideout on Friday, the outlaw opened fire, leading to an exchange of fire, in which he was killed.

Police also claimed the recovery of pistols and cartridges from the possession of the outlaw.

They said the body of the accused was shifted to DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of the martyred policeman were offered at the police headquarters here.

DIG Tahir Ayub congratulated the team participating in the operation and announced awarding certificates of appreciation and cash to them.
