Cutting supply line

THIS is with reference to the report ‘Balochistan plunges deeper into militancy vortex’ (Aug 27). Balochistan has been in turmoil, especially since the military oper-

ation against Nawab Akbar Bugti, but the recent act of terrorism has crossed limits; checkposts were attacked, railway tracks were blown up, vehicles were set on fire, and the most condemnable was the murder in cold blood of over 50 people simply because they belonged to the Punjab.

The people of Balochistan have faced a lot owing to terrorism, and several military operations have been launched to stop this violence. But the trouble has continued. No matter how effective the operation is, the wave of terrorism will not stop until our borders are safe.

The terrorists living up in the mountains of Balochistan are toothless if they do not have external support. They are heavily supported from across the border to chall-

enge the writ of the state. If the government is serious about making the terrorists ineffective in Balochistan, it must ensure that the connection between the terrorists and all their foreign masters is severed.
