PESHAWAR: The district health authorities on Saturday launched an awareness drive to save the people from dengue haemorrhagic fever in the endemic areas of Peshawar.

A team led by district health officer Dr Syed Mohammad Idrees visited the houses on Nasir Bagh Road and the Regi village, where most dengue cases have been recorded this year, and asked them to adhere to preventive measures to stay safe from the vector-born ailment.

According to a statement issued here, insecticide-impregnated bed nets were distributed among the people to protect themselves from the mosquito bites. On the occasion, people were asked to ensure that there were no standing water pools in their neighbourhood so the breeding points could be denied to mosquitoes.

The team members educated the locals about the protective measures. The doctors stressed asked the people to keep their localities clean and sprinkle kerosene oil in drains.

DHO Mr Idrees distributed bed nets among the locals. He assured the local community that the health department would provide them all possible help in eradicating dengue.

During the daylong campaign, the participants also organised a walk on the streets of Regi and Badizai areas of Nasir Bagh, with participants holding banners inscribed with awareness messages about the causes of the sickness.

Medical entomologist at DHO office Dr Sobia Saad also participated in the walk.
