LAKKI MARWAT/BANNU: A police constable was martyred in Lakki Marwat and an assistant sub-inspector was kidnapped in Bannu district on Saturday.

According to a police official, Constable Abdul Rehman was deployed at the Saddar police station in Bannu and he had come to his native village on leave.

He said that the assailants had opened fire, killing him on the spot.

The attackers escaped after committing crime. He said that police parties were dispatched to apprehend the culprits.

The senior police and military officials attended the funeral prayer of the martyred constable at the police lines.

The militant attacks on policemen have increasedin Bannu and Lakki Marwat districtsin the recent days as it was the third attack on the police during the last one week.

In another incident, armed men kidnapped an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sakhi Zaman from the Circular Road in Bannu.

An official said that after the kidnapping incident, the district police launched operation for the safe recovery of the kidnapped police officer.

A tribal jirga, comprising elders and religious scholars was also engaged in the efforts which proved helpful to secure the release and the abducted official reached his home safely.

Moreover, a constable sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in the Tarkhoo area of Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district.

According to the officials of police and Rescue 1122, the constable identified as Rahmatullah, was walking along the road when the assailants had attacked him.

Officials said that the injured constable was shifted to Khar hospital and a search operation was launched in the area to track down the attackers.
