KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were gunned down in an alleged encounter in Federal B Industrial Area on Saturday evening, officials said.

They said that personnel of Shaheen Force-Joharabad spotted two suspects riding on a motorbike and they indicated them to stop near Riaz Autos, F B Area Block 15.

However, the suspects resorted to firing and tried to speed away. The police chased them and in an ensuing exchange of gunfire near Gulshan-i-Amin within the remit of the Federal B Industrial Area police station, one suspect was killed on the spot while another suffered bullet wounds.

SSP-Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that he was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

The police claimed to have recovered two pistols and a motorbike from their custody.

Later, one of the deceased was identified as Farhad Ali, while the identity of his accomplice could not be ascertained till late in the night.

Policeman hurt in Quaidabad

A policeman was shot at and wounded during a joint raid by the Federal Investigation Agency and police on a Quaidabad mobile market to arrest a shopkeeper allegedly involved in the illegal hawala/hundi business.

The Shah Latif Town police said that the raid was conducted on a shop in the mobile market but the shopkeeper allegedly resorted to firing, resulting in bullet injuries to Constable Abdul Rehman, 30.

He was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The police said that the shopkeeper managed to escape.
