ABBOTTABAD: In a bid to protectthe local environment, the people of three villages of Lora tehsil filed a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court Abbottabad Circuit Bench against the installation of stone crushing plants in the area.

The petitioners, represented by advocate Obaid ur Rehman Abbasi, named 14 defendants including government departments and stone crushing firms and demanded immediate closure of the crushing plants.

They stated that the crushing plants were installed in violation of regulations and causing destruction of mountains and forests, posing a great threat to nearby population.

The petitioners stated that the residents of Gurini, Kyari and Lora villages were having adverse affects due to crushingactivities in the area.
