HARIPUR: Two students were killed and eight sustained injuries when the newly-constructed roof of a seminary for girls caved in here on Sunday evening.

Police, hospital and rescue sources confirmed the incident and said that rescue operation was still under way as two girls were believed to be still trapped under the debris. They said that the cause of the roof collapse could not ascertained immediately.

They said that class was in process on the ground floor of Madressa Maria Qabtia Lilbannaat on New City Dheenda Road when the second storey’s roof, which was constructed a few days ago, fell on the roof of the classroom where the students were sitting. As a result, all the students and their teacher were buried under the debris.

Police and rescue officials launched an operation and shifted them to Trauma Centre where two students were pronounced dead. Eight injured students admitted to the health facility for treatment.

Officials were busy in clearing the debris as according seminary administration two girl students were believed to be still trapped there.

Deputy Commissioner Shauzaib Abbas and DPO Farhan Khan were supervising the operation till filling of this report.

The deceased students were identified as Uzma Bibi, 16, and Aqsa Bibi, 16.

The injured include Laraib, Mahnoor, Muqadas, Muskan Bibi, Aiman, Tayaba Bibi, Humaira Bibi and their teacher Imtiaz Bibi teacher.
