KARACHI: A large number of young IT professionals have pledged to bring their earnings from abroad to Pakistan in the form of remittances to help pay off the country’s significant debts.

This pledge was made at the first reunion of the graduates of the Saylani Welfare International Trust’s IT training programme, held at Mohatta Palace.

Speaking as the chief guest, prominent businessman Muhammad Ali Tabba stated that the country’s economic crisis could be solved by preparing

IT professionals. He urged the government to fully support private sector and non-profit IT programmes.

“If the youth change their thinking, bringing a billion dollars into the country would not be a difficult task,” he said.

Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Saleemullah said that the central bank had always supported Pakistan’s IT industry to boost software exports. He expressed full support to increase Pakistan’s software exports from the current $3.2 billion to make it the top foreign exchange-earning sector in the next five years.

Faysal Bank CEO and President Yousuf Husain, businessman Arif Habib, Turkish Consul General Cemal Sangu and Saylani Welfare Trust founder Maulana Bashir Farooq Qadri also spoke.
