KARACHI: Athar Viqar Azim, former director of current affairs of Pakistan Television and general manager of its Karachi Centre passed away here on Sunday.

He was a part of the team which established current affairs programming in PTV. He covered many important and historic events for the state television in live telecasting. He was equally proficient in sports production and instrumental in live coverage of important sports events.

After quitting PTV, Athar joined a private channel (Hum) and left his indelible marks of a sound producer and broadcaster.

He was son of well-known Urdu critic and scholar Prof Viqar Azim. His other brother, Akhtar Waqar Azim, also served as the managing director of PTV.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon.
