LAHORE, March 31: The Women Wing of Pakistan Hockey Federation on Friday announced the schedule for the open trials to select women hockey team to participate in the qualifying Hockey Tournament (Women) to be held at Kuala Lumpur from June 4 to 11.

The first top four teams of the qualifying round will take part in the 15th Asian Games being held in Doha in December next.

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Iran, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea (DPR), Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, will also participate in the this tournament. China, Japan, India and Korea have already qualified for the Asian Games.

Parveen Sikandar Gill, secretary of Women Wing said the trials will begin at Peshawar from April 4-5 ,Balochistan and Karachi from April 6-7 and then at Lahore from April 8-9.

A selection committee headed by President, women wing, Shahida Jamil, has been constituted to select a balanced team.

The other members of the selection committee are: Brig (r) Musarrat Ullaha Khan, Parveen Gill, Dr Bushara Mateen, Col (retd), Zafar Ali Khan Zafri, Dr. Tahira Hussain, and Abida Tanvir.

The PHF Women Wing has also nominated local coordinators for the trials. Shasita Javed (Sindh), Nighat Orakzhai (N.W.F.P) and Suria Aladin (Balochistan).—APP
