NAWABSHAH: A retired army soldier was shot dead allegedly by his brothers-in-law over some family dispute in a village near Naushahro Feroze city on Monday, according to officials at the Mithiani police station of Naushahro Feroze district.

Both sides belonged to the Mashori community.

They said Ghulam Shabbir, the maternal uncle of deceased Mohammed Ramzan, lodged an FIR against the four brothers — Arshad Ali, Zahid Ali, Ali Asghar and Waseem — and one of them was arrested. A hunt was on for the arrest of the other suspects, they added.

According to the complainant, Ramzan was waylaid by the suspects near Sehra Minor (irrigation channel) in Mithiani town while he was on his way back home.

Police sources said that Ramzan’s body was thrown in the irrigation channel which was retrieved and shifted to a hospital for a postmortem examination. Later, it was handed over to the heirs, they added.

The complainant or other bereaved family members could not be reached by phone to ascertain details and nature of the dispute leading to the murder. The police were investigating the case from different angles.
