LAHORE: Two workers died while eight others injured, two of them critically, when an under-construction roof of a house collapsed in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) here on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Phase 7 of the DHA where nearly a dozen labouers were busy at work, a police official said.

He said the workers were digging a part of the building at the time when suddenly the cemented roof caved in and 10 of them got trapped under the debris.

The other workers immediately called the police and Rescue 1122 for help and a team from the emergency service rushed to the site.

A spokesperson for the Rescue 1122 said the teams recovered 10 injured from the debris of the building and shifted them to a local hospital where two of them breathed their last due to profound injuries.

He said the rescue teams completed the operation and handed over the premises to the police for investigation as to why the incident occurred.
