KARACHI: Pakistanis throughout the country will today ... [Sept 11] observe in all solemnity the first death anniversary of the Father of the Nation. In the Federal Capital, as elsewhere, business will be at a standstill and flags will fly at half-mast on public and private buildings. Mass fateha khwani at the Quaid-e-Azam’s grave will be held at 8-30 a.m. under the auspices of the Karachi City Muslim League. Later Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan will address a public meeting at the maidan adjacent to the Quaid-e-Azam’s grave at 5-30 in the evening. Chaudhri Khaliquzzaman will preside.

Heads of the diplomatic missions in Karachi, led by the Iranian Ambassador, His Excellency S.A. Nassar, will place wreaths on the grave of the Founder of Pakistan and pray for the peace of the departed soul at 10 a.m.

In a message to the nation ... the Prime Minister, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, urges the people to “look ahead and do their duty with determination” so as to “make Pakistan the kind of peaceful, prosperous and strong Islamic State” that the Quaid-i-Azam wanted it to be. — Dawn staff correspondent
