SWABI: Maneri neighbourhood council chairman Sher Ali Khan has threatened that locals will stage protest if a bridge in the area is not completed within three months.

Addressing a meeting here on Wednesday, he said that they would block Swabi-Mardan road till acceptance of their demand about completion of Maneri Bala bridge.

He said that the bridge was meant to provide an easy passage to people to Maneri Bala, however, it was not completed and it cost might increase from Rs12 million to Rs16 million owing delay in its completion.

Mr Khan, who is also a local leader of Awami National Party, said that it was a project of irrigation department. He said that there were reports that the project was abandoned. The residents of the area and its suburbs should not be forced to protest, he added.

Mumtaz Ali, a member of ANP provincial council, said that students were forced to use the longer route because the bridge was not completed timely. He said that people were forced to go through Maneri Payyan causeway.
