GUJRAT: A man and his nephew were gunned down allegedly by their rivals at Samman Pindi village in the precincts of Industrial Estate police station on Wednesday.

As per police sources, the deceased persons, Akbar Yousaf (65) and his nephew Qadeer Ahmed (45), were returning to their native Tapiala Sahian village on a motorcycle after attending a hearing in the district and sessions court in Gujrat, when they were intercepted along Upper Jhelum Canal by some armed car riders, allegedly belonging to their rival party from the same village.

The armed men opened fire at the motorcyclists, leaving both of them dead on the spot, and fled the scene.

On being informed of the incident, police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH). A Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) team collected evidence from the crime scene.

Initial police investigation shows the deceased had an enmity with a group belonging to their native village. They were accused of killing some members of their rival group over the past few years.

Police have yet to register the case.
