CRIMINOLOGY, a field deeply involved in understanding and combating criminal behaviour, remains significantly under-rated in Pakistan despite its profound implications for society. This discipline plays a pivotal role in formulating effective crime prevention strategies, informing policy decisions, and enhancing public safety.
In Pakistan, institutions like Karachi University’s Department of Criminology stand as a beacon of academic excellence in the field. However, due to a lack of aw-areness and insufficient support, graduates often struggle to find relevant employment opportunities within public-sector agencies. This disconnect not only und-ermines the potential benefits that criminology offers, but also diminishes the impact of research and expertise that could otherwise contribute to meaningful advancements in criminal justice and policymaking.
It is imperative to raise awareness about the significance of the field, and to create pathways for graduates to engage in public service roles. By investing in this discipline, we can better address the challenges of crime, enhance societal safety, and ensure that the expertise developed in our academic institutions translates into tangible benefits for the country.
