KARACHI: A woman and her two infant daughters drowned in a water tank in Sukkun on Thursday, said police and rescue services officials.
Malir police spokesperson Mohammed Imran said that an infant girl was playing near an underground water tank inside her home in Bakhtawar Goth.
The child fell into the tank while playing. The officer said that the water tank was quite deep. The mother jumped into the tank to save her daughter, but she also drowned. Another infant daughter of the mother followed her and she also drowned.
The police after receiving information rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. The victims were identified as Shumaila Ali Nawaz, 35, Yusra, 5, and Rubab, 3.
Three citizens shot by muggers in separate robberies
Three people were shot by robbers in different parts of Karachi on Thursday, said police and rescue services officials.
Nazimabad police station SHO Amir Azam said that Majid Ali, 35, was standing outside the shop of his brother in Nazimabad No3 when armed motorcyclists arrived there. Initially, the suspects demanded cigarettes. However, the shopkeeper got suspicious about them and refused to give cigarettes.
In the meantime, the robbers took out a pistol; upon which Majid caught one of the armed men who opened fire on him and fled without any loot.
Majid suffered a bullet wound on his leg and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
Sukhan police said that Mohammed Yasir, 21, was shot when he put up resistance to a robbery bid in Bhens Colony in Street-6.
The wounded youth was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
In another incident in the same area, Mehrab Ghanwar, 40, was shot by alleged robbers in Street-10. The wounded man was taken to the JPMC.
