RAWALPINDI: The police in Punjab have been barred from expressing any kind of opinion on social media platforms.

A directive issued by additional inspector general of police (AIG) Operation, to the Regional Police Officer (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs) of Rawalpindi, Lahore and district police chiefs across Punjab, clearly stating that without DPO or unit head permission, no social media activity in uniform shall be carried out.

It has been directed that the instructions regarding the use of social media platforms should be strictly followed.

No personal, political or religious views are allowed to be shared on social media platforms, the directive said.

It further added that official channels related to police activities will be operated by the CPO, DPO or Unit Head only.

Private individuals will not be allowed to use police vehicles and offices for any social media activity, while adding that RPOs and Unit Heads will be personally responsible for the implementation of the social media policy.
