OKARA: A lawyer was shot dead and a passer-by injured after an alleged shooting over previous litigation here late on Thursday.

According to the first information report (FIR), Jumma Khan with his sons Advocate Malik Mahmood Phulerwan and Malik Manzoor Ahmad and cousin Shafique was travelling from their village Ruknpura to Dipalpur by a car.

Near a filling station outside Basirpur, Ghulam Murtaza, Ijaz Ahmad, Waqas Ahmad and two others opened fire at Mahmood, who was driving the car. In the incident, Faisal Ramzan, a passer-by, also suffered bullet injuries.

Rescue 1122 provided first aid, but Mahmood succumbed to his injuries en route to Dipalpur THQ Hospital. The injured passer-by was shifted to the hospital.

According to the FIR, the shooting was allegedly planned by Murtaza, who had previously shot at Jumma Khan. The case was being pursued by Advocate Mahmood.

Basirpur police registered a case under sections 302, 324, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Murtaza was arrested, while a special team has been formed to trace and arrest the other suspects.

KILLED: Two persons were killed during a clash between rival groups on Thursday night on Attari Road near Mandi Ahmadabad.

According to the FIR, Faiz Ahmad Kharl, along with his sons Shoaib and Aftab and others, Allah Ditta, Muhammad Khan and Abbas, was returning to the village Mujahid Ky after attending a ‘panchayat’ when they were intercepted by the suspects near a pharmacy on Attari Road.

Suspects Zaman, his sons Alam, Zubair, Ahmad and Abbad, along with Khizar and 20 unidentified accomplices, opened indiscriminate fire on the complainants. Shoaib was killed, while Allah Ditta sustained bullet injuries.

During the firing, Zubair, one of the attackers, was also injured by bullets fired by his own group and later succumbed to his wounds.

The dispute is related to a tractor dacoity, where Faiz Kharl supported the victims.

Zaman alias Ayub Wattoo had warned Faiz to stop supporting their rivals and had even slapped Shoaib a few days before the incident.

Mandi Ahmadabad police registered a case against six named suspects and 26 accomplices under sections 302, 109, 148, and 149 of the PPC.
