LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a reply from the deputy commissioner (DC) on a contempt of court petition filed against him not granting permission to PTI for holding a rally in the city.
PTI-Lahore chapter President Akmal Khan filed the petition.
Advocate Khurram Latif Khosa argued on behalf of the petitioner that the court had directed the authorities concerned to decide on an application for the rally, but no action had been taken.
The lawyer further argued that holding a peaceful rally was a constitutional right of every political party, and no one could be deprived of his fundamental rights.
He pleaded that not complying with the court orders amounted to contempt of court. Therefore, he asked the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the DC.
Justice Farooq Haider issued a notice to the DC for submission of a reply by Sept 16.
