DERA GHAZI KHAN: Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed on Friday that a terror plot was thwarted and two suspected terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in the limits of Sakhi Sarwar police station.

According to spokesperson, a CTD team in Dera Ghazi Khan received credible information about the presence of four unidentified suspects who were allegedly planning attacks on vital installations and law enforcement agencies in the province.

Acting on the information, the CTD team carried out an operation in the area under the jurisdiction of Sakhi Sarwar police.

He said the suspects were reportedly in possession of explosives and firearms.

On seeing the CTD team, the suspects opened fire on them indiscriminately.

The spokesperson said that after the gunfire ceased, two of the suspects were found dead, apparently killed in the firing by their own accomplices, who managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The CTD team recovered four grenades, a 44-bore rifle with ammunition and a sub-machine gun (SMG) with ammunition from the suspects’ hideout.

Bomb Disposal Squad was also called to the location to defuse the recovered explosives.

A First Information Report (FIR No 08/24) has been registered under various sections, including the Explosive Substances Act, the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, and the Anti-Terrorism Act, among others, at DG Khan CTD police station, against the suspects.

Further investigation is underway, a CTD spokesperson said.
