NEW CHARGE: I got my K-Electric (KE) bill for the month of August and was surprised to note that one of the items charged was ‘MUCT (KMC)’, which I later found related to Municipal Utility Charges and Taxes (MUCT) that the KE is colle-cting on behalf of the Karachi Metro-politan Corporation (KMC). I have two separate meters for ground and first floors. Interestingly, the demand on one was for Rs300, while on the other it was Rs150. My house is located in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area, and we pay our taxes to the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC). Naturally, we have nothing to do with the KMC. I fail to understand why I should pay charges related to the KMC. Can someone be kind enough to explain this?

POLITICAL GIMMICK: This is with reference to the report “Imran’s chancellorship bid criticised in UK paper” (Sept 2). I understand that the elections for the position of chancellor of Oxford University will be held in the last week of September. The voting is online and the electoral college consists of 250,000 eligible voters. Coming to the high values of Oxford University, does the man really qualify and deserve the position he is aspiring for? It seems that his candidature for the post of chancellor is more of a political gimmick to gain political mileage domestically.

SOCIAL MEDIA ADS: As I settled in for an online programming language class recently, I was irritated by intrusive advertisements on YouTube. I was eager to focus on my lesson, but unrelated ads for various products cluttered my screen, disrupting the learning experience. Social media platforms have become breeding grounds for such advertising. Our online experiences are being invaded by these intrusive ads, undermining the purpose of online education and information. Forcing users to watch unwanted advertisements is not effective promotion. In fact, it is counterproductive, leading to rather increased annoyance. Can something be done in this regard?
