HYDERABAD: Bodies of a mother and her daughter were found in their one-room house in the SITE police station near Nara prison on Friday evening.

Ali Raza Birhamani claimed before police that his mother Bakhtawar Birhamani, 45, and sister Saba Noor Birhamani, 19, had committed suicide.

SITE police station’s SHO Imran Rasheed said that Ms Bakhtawar had first given some drug to her daughter and then throttled her to death. Afterwards, she hanged herself to commit suicide, he said.

He attributed the woman’s extreme step to poverty and quoted her son as saying that when they were young their mother had given them a poisonous drink at the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi but luckily they survived .

The SHO said that two of Bakhtawar’s sons were daily wage earners and the third was jobless. A case under Section 302 PPC (vide crime No159/24) on the complaint of sub-inspector, Farhan Shaikh, had been lodged, he said.

According to medico legal officer, marks of rope were also found round the neck of Saba, said the SHO.

The bodies were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad, and were later handed over to heirs for burial.
