MUZAFFARGARH: A faith healer (Pir) allegedly raped a woman who called on him to take an amulet at Chak 434/TDA, Chowk Azam.

The victim, a resident of Mohallah Eidgah, went to get an amulet from the faith healer for her sick daughter. He called her into the room and raped her there. She registered a case against the suspect with the Chowk Azam Police Station and police arrested him.

ACCIDENT: Three members of a family died in a road accident near Chak 217 TDA, Fatehpur, Layyah.

Imran (20) was riding a motorcycle while her mother Rasheed Bibi (40) and sister Fatima (8) were the pillions. The speeding motorcycle rammed into a tractor-trolley from its rear side and all three of the motorcycle riders died on impact.

The locals called the rescuers who shifted the bodies to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Fatehpur, before handing them over to the deceased’s family.

PROTEST: A woman protested against police in Layyah for supporting the accused who had allegedly kidnapped and sold her.

Hira Kanwal alleged that Ghulam Murtaza, Mumtaz, Muhammad Arshad, Babar and Nadeem Qureshi had kidnapped her and sold her in Karachi for Rs5m. However, she escaped and returned home.

She said a case was registered on her complaint on the orders of the district police officer but the accused were still free because police did not include the relevant sections in her case. As a result, the only accused arrested by the police, Murtaza, was also set free. She demanded police include relevant provisions in her case.

Police said according to the preliminary investigation, the woman was having a monetary dispute with her father and brothers. On her request, a case was registered according to the law.

An accused, Nadeem Qureshi, was arrested and brought before the court while the other suspects involved in the case were on interim bail.

Police claimed the woman would be provided with justice on merit.
