Islamabad to host national junior hockey championship

LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced that the 37th National Junior Hockey Championship will take place in Islamabad from Sept 25 to Oct 5.

Players born on or after January 1, 2003, are eligible to participate in the championship.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation has instructed provincial hockey associations to prepare their teams for the event.

However, controversy surrounds the participation of Sindh, as the province’s hockey association secretary, Akbar Ali Qaimkhani, alleged that the PHF contacted a parallel, unaffiliated body instead of the recognised Sindh Hockey Association.

Akbar Ali has urged the provincial sports minister to take strict action against those operating the unauthorized organisation.
