UNIVERSITY ROAD

UNIVERSITY ROAD: The University Road in Karachi is in desperate need of repair. There is a construction project going on for the last few years and no one quite knows when it will be completed, if ever. But whatever is left of the road needs to be carpeted, and so do all the lanes and streets that are running parallel to the main road. The dust and debris pose a health risk to the people. The authorities need to take immediate action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those who use the road for their daily commute.

SOCRATIC METHOD: Socrates introduced a method of discovering facts by constantly asking questions and delving deeper into the problems by thought experiments. He could not stop asking questions even when his life was at stake. The Socratic method of questioning remains one of the most effective teaching methods that boost the learners’ critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. It helps ameliorate systems and critique information. We need to adopt the well-known method both as individuals and as a society.

PENDING RESULTS: A number of higher education institutions in Sindh have yet to announce final year results of the 2019 batch of their respective affiliated colleges. This is a serious concern for the students as they are very close to missing out on a chance to apply for some upcoming job opportunities in teaching and other fields. The authorities concerned must ask the universities to speed up the process.

ROADS IN BAD SHAPE: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi carried out an extensive storm water drain project which caused a lot of inconvenience to the residents. The roads that were built after the completion of the project have started caving in. Khayaban-i-Seher, for instance, is full of potholes, making it almost impossible to drive on.

People at the helm should take notice.
