Honey-trap gang arrested for extorting money

TOBA TEK SINGH: Three members of a honey-trap gang, including two women, were arrested on Friday by the Jhang city police for extorting Rs260,000 from a man.

The gang had promised to marry one of their females to the complainant’s relative.

According to the FIR registered by Arif, of Habibpura, under Section 386 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the gang contacted him to arrange an engagement between his relative, Akhtar, and a girl introduced by the gang members. After the engagement was confirmed, the gang demanded Rs260,000 for wedding expenses, which Arif provided.

The arrested members were identified as Shamsuddin and his two accomplices Razia Hajjan and Kalsoom Bibi, both of Rashid Chowk.

In his complaint, Arif said that during a subsequent meeting, he was served tea laced with toxic chemicals and he passed out.

When he regained consciousness, he was threatened with false accusations of raping Kalsoom if he demanded his money back or forced them to proceed with the marriage.

The police claimed the gang had previously been involved in similar extortion schemes.

OFFLOADED: Two passengers were offloaded from flight FZ-392 at Faisalabad airport on Friday by the FIA immigration wing for possessing fake visas.

Zain Ali Abid and Babar Hussain were to travel to Italy when immigration authorities examined their documents and found them forged.

Both passengers were handed over to the FIA’s anti-human trafficking cell for further legal action.

FLEES: A narcotics case accused, who was brought from the central jail for a court appearance, escaped police custody at Faisalabad’s sessions court on Friday.

The Civil Lines Police registered cases under sections 223 and 224 of the PPC and section 155C of the Police Order against lock-up in charge Inspector Sultan Ahmad, Muharrar Akhtar Ali Saqi and constables Naeem and Atif.

Saqi was arrested and raids were being conducted to arrest the other policemen.

SSP Rana Abdul Wahab has been assigned to investigate the matter.

TROPHY: The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy exhibition ceremony was held at GCU Faisalabad on Friday.

The trophy, which was brought from Dubai, is being exhibited in Pakistan for four days. The event was organised by the Directorate of Sports GCUF and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in collaboration with the ICC.

The Vice-Chancellor, Dr Nasir Amin, Director of Sports Zeeshan Ahmed Khan, Dr Tayyaba Sultana, Dr Maryam Rehman, and Adnan Ali, General Manager of International Cricket Operations, unveiled the trophy along with students.

BODIES RECOVERED: Rescue 1122 recovered two bodies from the downstream flow of the Chenab River at Trimmu Headworks in Jhang district on Friday.

The bodies were handed over to Athara Hazari police, who have shifted them to the THQ hospital for autopsy. Further investigation is underway.
