Suspect shot dead in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: A suspected criminal was gunned down in an alleged encounter near Guru Mandir on Friday.

The Jamshed Quarters police said that they signalled two men riding a motorbike to stop.

However, they resorted to firing and tried to speedy away. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect was killed while his accomplice managed to escape, they added.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.

The police said that his identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.

They claimed to have recovered a pistol, one motorcycle and cash from his possession.
