BAHAWALPUR: Vehari District Police Officer Mansoor Aman on Saturday suspended three police officials, including a station house officer, for allegedly torturing a petrol pump employee in Jhal Sial area after its video went viral on the social media.

According to police spokesperson, the suspended officials included Jhal Sial SHO Anees Anwar Bhatti, ASI Munawwar Hussain and constable Hamza Shamim. A departmental inquiry into the incident has been ordered.

The PRO said Vehari SSP investigation Farooq Ahmed Kamiana, who was appointed inquiry officer, was directed to submit his report with the next 48 hours. He added that in the light of the inquiry report, if the suspended police officials were found guilty, a case would be registered against them and further action would be taken.

Reports said the police officials had allegedly tortured a petrol pump security guard for demanding the payment of the fuel which they had purchased from the filling station.

Petrol pump owner Zaheer Abbas Tajwana told the media that the other day the police officials forcibly took petrol from the employees of the filling station located at Adda Nadirwali.

On the demand of payment, the officials brutally tortured the elderly security guard. As the CCTV cameras were installed all around the petrol pump premises, the police officials allegedly entered into cash room and attempted to delete the footage but after their failure they removed the DVR and took it along with them.

However, the [torture] video was taken out from another camera and it was uploaded on social video to seek justice from police high-ups.

ACE: The anti-corruption establishment claimed on Saturday to have arrested reader Waris Ali and naib qasid Muhammad Yousaf of additional commissioner (consolidation) Bahawalpur for receiving bribe from one Imran Tariq.

The ACE team, headed by judicial magistrate, conducted the raid on the complaint of Imran Tariq who paid Rs10,000 to suspects for some revenue work.

The amount has also been recovered.
