CM forms committee for tourism promotion

LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has constituted a 26-member steering committee for promotion and development of tourism in Punjab.

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb will act as its convener. Senator Pervaiz Rashid has been especially nominated in the committee.

According to an official notification, the committee includes Information & Culture Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, Construction and Communications Minister Soheb Ahmed Malik, Transport Minister Bilal Akbar and MNA Afzal Khokhar.

Other members of the committee include chairman planning & development and secretaries of finance, tourism, construction, information, P&D, forest, environment protection and transport.

The DG Walled City Lahore, Chairman PITB, CEO IDAP, CEO Urban Unit, DG PHA, DG Wildlife and Parks, DG LDA and principal NCA will also be members of the committee.

It will work together to identify, approve and implement plans and will remove barriers for the promotion of tourism.

The committee will plan the construction, rehabilitation and repair of important tourist spots. It will also make recommendations for the upgrade of historical, religious, cultural and commercial sites suitable for tourism.

The committee will also formulate a communication strategy by employing

digital, electronic and social media platforms as one-stop solution for promotion of tourism.

The secretary tourism will provide administrative support to it that will make recommendations within 15 days in consultation with the stakeholders.
