LARKANA, April 3: Chairperson Pakistan People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Ghinwa Bhutto demanded on Monday reopening of the case of late Z. A. Bhutto to find out the real reasons for which he was hanged.

In a message issued from Al-Murtaza House to mark the 27th death anniversary of party’s founding leader she said former chief justices of Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Nasim Hasan Shah and Justice Jawed Iqbal had termed the decision a ‘wrong verdict’.

She said it was now an open secret that imperialist forces had been instrumental in sending Bhutto to gallows. There would have been no Camp David agreement, no Oslo agreement and no differences within Muslim countries, had late Z A Bhutto been alive, she claimed.

She criticized Ms Benazir Bhutto for her failure in getting her father’s case reopened even though she remained prime minister for two tenures.

Listing Bhutto’s achievements, she said he was the man who had brought back 90,000 prisoners of war and took back 5000 square mile country’s land from Indian possession.

She urged people to forge unity among their ranks and continue mounting pressure on the rulers to get people’s rule in the country.

DEMOCRACY: Former District Nazim Khairpur and PPP leader Ms Nafisa Shah said on Monday world powers had always given priority to their interests and they had no interest in democracy in the country.

In her presidential address at a seminar on “Why democracy fails in Pakistan?” organised by Liberal Forum Pakistan (LFP) she said certain institutions had turned into agents of big powers.

Citing example from history she said Pakistan’s border areas had been used as fighting fronts during British rule and now the world powers were fighting a ‘war of interests’ there.

She regretted “Even in the 21st century we are witnessing ‘jirgas’ (private courts) despite clear ban. The institutions have become subordinates to feudal lords.”

LFP central president Asif Khan said the country, under military rule for more than 33 years, had not witnessed any land reforms. It had seen only cantonments constructed against the wishes of the people who were still waiting for National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, he said.

He said it was Sindh’s pressure that Gen Musharraf had to drop the announcement of Kalabagh Dam. Balochistan which met 50 per cent of country’s gas needs was under 70,000 army men.

Nazir Shaikh of Awami Tahreek, Sasee Palijo, Dr Sabiha Mughal, Hussain Bakhsh Thebo, Qazi Asif, Ms Andleeb Kusar Jhatyal, Khalid Chandio, Dr Zulfikar Rahoojo, Talib Shah, Qazi Aijaz and others criticised the government for its flawed policies.

INQUIRY ORDERED: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has ordered an inquiry into a fire incident in the Khan Mohammad Rind village on the outskirts of Ratodero.

A member of the chief minister’s inspection team, Syed Hassan Shah Bukhari, was assigned to conduct the inquiry, sources in the district government told Dawn here on Thursday.

The inquiry will start on March 31 at the district nazim’s secretariat which will be attended by DCOs of Larkana and Shikarpur and other officials concerned.
