KARACHI: People of Karachi can now apply online for a learning driving licence or an international licence permit as Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar on Saturday inaugurated the online driving licence facility at the Clifton Driving Licence Branch.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the citizens could use the online service for effortless issuance of their learning licence, international driving permits and renewal of non-commercial licences.

However, the international driving permits will only be issued to those residents of Sindh who possess a valid driving licence.

The minister said that modern policing would improve the image of police and may foster a friendly environment between the law enforcement agency and the people.

The home minister directed the Karachi police chief to set up ‘model’ police stations in the metropolis.

Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon said that the online service was launched for the conveniences of the people.

He opined that the online service would help a large number of drivers in getting their licences.

The provision of applying for a driving licence while sitting at home would also reduce the burden on driving licence branches, he added.

He said that all over the world, traffic system was managed through information technology.
