BAJAUR: Yet another police post was attacked in Bajaur district’s Salarzai tehsil on Saturday night as officials claimed the attack was repulsed effectively.

Local residents and police officials said that unidentified assailants attacked the police post in Thangi area, located some 16 kilometres northeast of Khar, the district headquarters.

They said that the attackers targeted the post with rockets and gunfire. However, a senior police officer, who visited the post, told Dawn on Sunday that no loss of life was caused as the personnel deputed there quickly responded to the attack.

He said the brave response of the personnel forced the attackers to flee from the scene after targeting the post for about 20 minutes.

Police sources said this was the fourth such attack on police posts in the district over the last one week, and also came a day after the Saturday’s bomb attack, targeting a police vehicle in Bhai Chena area that left nine policemen, including an SHO, injured.

The sources said that senior police officials had decided to increase the strength of police personnel at the police posts stations across the district to counter any potential attacks effectively.

The sources said that it had been decided to equip the police personnel with modern weapons and safety gadgets such as helmets and bulletproof jackets.
