COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

Published September 30, 2024

COMMUNICABLE DISEASES: The surge in communicable diseases, including malaria, typhoid, dengue, diarrhoea, gastroenteritis and chikungunya, reflects the incompetence of authorities responsible for maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in Karachi. The prevalence of these controllable diseases is due to lack of proper garbage disposal. With callous authorities at the helm, it is crucial for the residents to maintain proper hygiene themselves, eat healthy food, and use mosquito repellents and nets.

CAMPUS CLASH: The University of Punjab has become a battlefield for the so-called ‘student councils’. They fight every other day, disturbing campus peace. After a recent clash, more than 50 students were arrested by police. Such incidents not only destroy the atmosphere of the university, but also create an environment of hatred among the students. Teachers should advise students to stay away from such activities, and try to achieve harmony among the students. The government should also take the issue seriously.

HUB OF CINEMAS: The entire area comprising Saddar and M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi was once known as the hub of cinemas for its vibrant cinema culture. However, since the closure of cinemas, the area has turned into a barren zone. Cinema was always meant for the masses, not for the elite. But the trend of multiplexes has changed the dynamics. It is rather unfortunate.

AUTOBAHN ROAD: Hyderabad’s Autobahn Road is home to multiple top business houses. Sadly, the condition of the road is extremely poor. The maintenance work has been in progress for a long time, but no one knows when it will end. Uneven surfaces and dust cause discomfort to the people, but the authorities have taken no action to expedite the process. The road needs to be repaired immediately.
