MANSEHRA/BAJAUR: Three persons, including the deputy emir of Jamaat-i-Islami Bajaur chapter, were killed after the car they were travelling in plunged into a deep ravine in Jigal area of Lower Kohistan district on Monday.

“We shifted bodies of all the three persons to a health facility in Pattan area after retrieving them from the gorge,” Sajid Ali, Rescue 1122 district emergency officer, Lower Kohistan, told reporters.

Qari Abdul Majeed, Jamaat’s deputy emir for Bajaur, along with a colleague and a police guard, was on his way to Gilgit when the accident occurred on the Karakoram Highway.

Rescue 1122 and police personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the gorge and shifted them to the District Headquarters Hospital, Pattan.

The other two deceased were identified as Amanullah Khan and Hayatur Rehman.

Mr Ali said that the bodies of Abdul Majeed, who also contested the PK-41 constituency in the February 8 general elections, and the other two were dispatched to their native district after doctors and police completed the medico-legal formalities at the Pattan hospital.

Meanwhile, Qari Abdul Majeed, his companion and the police guard were laid to rest in Bajaur on Monday evening.

Earlier, their bodies were transported to the Bajaur Sports Complex in Khar for the funeral prayers. Qari Abdul Majeed, who also remained the JI Bajaur chief for two terms, was quite vocal in raising the issues of the region.

Meanwhile, people from different walks of life, including political, social figures, elders and traders, expressed their sorrow over the tragic death of Mr Majeed and termed it an irreparable loss to not only the people of Bajaur but also all of the tribal districts.

Also the political and religious parties postponed their activities for three days to mourn the death of Mr Majeed and the other two in the road accident.
