SUKKUR: Jacobabad police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two suspects who were smuggling a huge consignment of arms and ammunition by a truck laden with spare auto parts, sanitary wares and other hardware items.
They were taken into custody during an intelligence based operation at the Shambi Shah checkpoint near the Sindh-Balochistan border area within the jurisidiction of the Saddar police station.
Jacobabad SSP Saddam Hussain Khaskheli said DSP Qalandar Bakhsh Soomro and SHO Bashir Ahmed Mangi of Saddar police station with the assistance of personnel of different intelligence agencies intercepted a truck, which was coming from Gujranwala and was on its way to Balochistan, and recovered a huge consignment of arms and ammunition hidden under the packets of different itesm.
He said the police had recovered 138 9mm pistols and 276 magazines, along with auto spare parts, sanitary wares and other item, from the vehicle (No- TKG 245) during the intelligence-based checking.
The arrested suspects were identified as Syed Saeed Ahmed Shah and Abdul Bari Pathan, residents of Pishin, the SSP said.
He said that they had locked the outlaws up and lodged cases against them under relevant sections of the law.
He said the police would continue such actions against smuggling and no leniency would be shown towards any culprits involved in transporting the illegal weapons, contraband and narcotics, through Jacobabad district.
